Yu Yue (Bruce) 虞越

I am Yue Yu (Bruce), a PhD student at the Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). I am fortunate to be supervised by Prof. Cameron Campbell and Prof. Huamin Qu. I previously received an MPhil in Computer Science and Engineering (2025) and a BSc in Quantitative Social Analysis and Computer Science (2023), both from HKUST.

My research lies at the intersection of computer science and social science, with a primary focus on developing computational methods to analyze large-scale social data. Since 2023, my work has centered on creating a machine learning pipeline for record linkage within historical Chinese databases. This methodology has been successfully applied to the CGED-Q JSL database, where it has accurately linked millions of individual records. Concurrently, I have been responsible for the development and maintenance of the CGED-Q JSL’s public search platform, which serves the needs of thousands of users.

Building on this foundation, my PhD research focuses on pioneering rigorous methodologies to model and explain the complex causal effects that shape career trajectories.

In addition to my focus on computational social science, I am broadly interested in human-AI collaboration. My first- and co-authored papers have been published in leading computer science venues, including the IEEE/CVF Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR), the IEEE International Conference on Computer Vision (ICCV), and IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics (TVCG).
